About Us

We have not figured out how to retire, but we are working on it. The first commandment with a promise is found in Exodus 20:12 (ESV) “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.” Since both our parents have passed long ago, we would like our children and grandchildren to know that our parents loved them without seeing them, and planned for their future. They deserve to be honored. It is our hope our home in Costa Rica might encourage them toward a life of honoring others, and that they might enjoy the promise of long days. Vacations always seem to be too fast. While you visit our home, we hope you might enjoy every day there as a ‘long day’ on a long vacation to enjoy the beauty of the sea, the mountains, the jungle, and the wildlife in the area (including the turtles, of course!). And, that the beauty and awe of God’s creation might draw you closer to realizing who God is and who you are in light of his love, glory, and power. Enjoy your stay!

MODERN MINIMALIST SMART HOME DESIGN

Our open floor plan, flood of light, and simple, but purposeful decor create a timeless, soothing, serene sense of comfort and home. The beaches are not far away, but winding route is about a 12 minute drive. This is Costa Rica, so power and water outages are more common than you might expect. Therefore, the home is equipped with a Niko smart control system that provides 7 to 8 hours of battery back up power on essential systems and a 1500 liter backup water supply system to get you through with minimal disturbance to your vacation plans.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Located on the 8th parallel, the home is deliberately placed at an elevation of 984 feet up the mountain from the beaches. This elevation is above the 'bug line' and allows you to open the home and enjoy the cool mountain breezes. Of course, it is equipped with heat and air conditioning, but you may rarely need it. We thought this location is superior to the beach with the high summertime temps. When you are home, comfort is key.

HIGH SPEED WIFI

As you enjoy Pura Vida, you and your children may forget about 'screen time', but it is also great sometimes to stream a movie and enjoy a relaxed evening at home. And, let's admit it, some of us may need to work remotely a few hours of the day. The high speed internet is an essential you will enjoy.
